Three Types of Forms
Every form in PaisaTax falls into one of three categories based on where its data comes from:
| Type | Description | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Receivable | Third parties send these to the taxpayer. Data comes from uploaded documents or manual entry of document values. | W-2, 1099-INT, 1099-NEC, 1098, 1099-R |
| Preparer Input | The preparer enters data from client records, interviews, or professional knowledge. Not based on a received document. | Schedule C expenses, Schedule E rental details, Schedule A itemized deductions |
| Computed | The tax engine calculates these automatically from upstream data. Some have optional preparer inputs. | Schedule B, Schedule D, Schedule SE, Form 1040 |

How Forms Auto-Enable
PaisaTax uses a data-driven visibility system. Forms appear when the data that triggers them exists — not when a profile checkbox is checked.
Trigger types:
- Non-zero values: W-2 Box 12 Code W is non-zero → Form 8889 enables
- Truthy flags: W-2 Box 13 Statutory Employee checked → Schedule C enables
- Slot existence: A 1099-B slot exists → Form 8949 and Schedule D enable
- Threshold rules: W-2 Medicare wages + SE income exceed $200K/$250K → Form 8959 enables
- Document uploads: Solar invoice uploaded → Form 5695 suggested in Step 3
Info
You never need to manually enable computed forms. Enter the data and the engine handles the rest.
Three Form Enablement Paths
- Profile suggestion → user confirms: Select a profile (self-employed, investor, etc.) during intake. PaisaTax suggests relevant forms in Step 3 — you choose which to add.
- Document triggers visibility rule: Upload a document and the system auto-creates or suggests the relevant form (1099-NEC → Schedule C, daycare receipt → Form 2441).
- Manual add in Step 3: Click "Add" on any preparer-input form. Use this for situations not triggered by documents or profiles.
Adding Forms
During session creation (Steps 2 and 3):
- Step 2 shows receivable forms. Click "Add" to create a new slot for a W-2, 1099, etc.
- Step 3 shows preparer-input forms. Add Schedule C, Schedule E, or other situation-specific forms.
During Prep View:
- Use the "Add Form" button to add any receivable or preparer-input form at any time
- Slotted forms (W-2, 1099s, Schedule C) create a new slot each time — one per employer, one per payer, one per business
- Toggle forms (Schedule A, Form 8862) are single-instance and can be enabled/disabled
Form Hierarchy
Forms follow a tiered processing order:
- Tier 1 — Source documents: W-2s, 1099s, 1098s — the raw data
- Tier 2 — Preparer situations: Schedule C expenses, Schedule E details, itemized deductions, credits
- Tier 3 — Auto-computed: Schedule B, D, SE, 1/2/3, EIC, child tax credit, education credits — calculated from Tiers 1 and 2
- Tier 4 — Post-1040 forms: Form 8959, 8960, 8995, 1116, 8962 — depend on AGI or total tax from the 1040
The engine processes forms in this order automatically. Changes cascade: update a W-2 Box 1 and it flows through Schedule 1, Form 1040, and all downstream credits and taxes.
